The SPAD is a French aircraft
that went into production in 1917. Both French, British
and Amercans squadrons flew several different models of the
aircraft. Jacks reproduction is a 1917 SPAD XIII similar
to the one flown by American Ace Eddie Rickenbacker. Though
Jack's SPAD may vary in detail, he has managed to capture the
esence of the WWI fighter. You can see in the following photos
his attention to detail including the gun sight and exhaust.
Jack's years of extensive aircraft experience meshed with his
devotion and painstaking attention to detail has reproduced
one of the few existing SPADS XIII.
These photos are of its first
time out to test the brake system and other mechanical components.
Once all systems have passed satisfactorily, it
will then be ready to begin actual test flights.
Jack says it is a handful!
